Good morning, my lovelies! Happy Monday! I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend.
I’m sort of all over the map today, but at least I know why. TOM is finally dragging his sorry butt through the door, late as usual, with no explanations. He’s like a really bad boyfriend…always late, I never know how long he’s going to hang around, sometimes shows up without warning when I don’t expect him, and never brings anything but pain and heartache. I should totally break up with him. Hmph. Oh yes, and he brings all his baggage and leaves it lying around all over the place.
And yet, I’m always relieved when he does show up. Crazy, huh?
I’m carrying around two extra pounds, so I’m glad to see there’s a reason other than my weekend debauchery.
Yeah, that’s right, I said it. Debauchery. It was a really…really…good weekend. Remember on Thursday I said I was going to make some memories? I did.
Friday night, ED’s friend from Florida came over to spend the night. We had pizza, despite my resolve. Then my walking buddy, B., came over with her kids and we had a really cool Chat Night. (This is what Movie Night morphs into at my house. We never watch movies, we just talk.) And then we went to a walking trail not far from home and walked about three miles, which was wonderful. We got done just in time to avoid the massive electrical storm that descended upon the area, though we could see the lightning flickering as we were finishing up. YD had gone to B’s house to play with her kids while we were walking, and she and I made it home just before the storm hit.
Saturday, we had sort of a sleep-in morning, and then I took all three girls to Sonic for lunch. Sonic is a deep-seated love of mine, second only to Braum’s. There are NO Braum’s here, but there is a Sonic – about an hour’s drive away. We made the drive, ate horribly (but it was wonderful!) and had an absolutely awesome time. Then we all went and saw Kung Fu Panda, which I adored. Funny movie. At one point I laughed so hard I literally couldn’t breathe. I highly recommend the movie.
We took ED’s friend back to her grandparents’ house, then ran to the bookstore to pick up a last-minute Father’s Day gift and spend an hour or so browsing. Then we spent an hour or so at Target just chatting with my very favorite former co-workers…and back home to watch The Game Plan on PPV. Another movie I enjoyed way more than I expected to, and a fun thing to do with my daughters.
Sunday we all three cleaned like madwomen – marking the first time my daughters have willingly helped to clean the house, because it was “sort of a present for Dad”, to come home to a super-clean house after his guys’ weekend. May I just say, my house is currently reeling because it’s never been so clean.
And then we were all very happy to see DH when he came in at around 5:30. He opened his gifts, toured the newly clean house, and then we had a very nice dinner.
All in all, it was really an amazing weekend and I have to admit, I don’t regret a second of it, not even the banana split. (Okay, I didn’t eat the whole thing! Mostly just the banana and the whipped cream and nuts.) It was one of those times when the stars are just aligned perfectly to make some amazing memories, and I do not regret taking advantage of it. No matter what the scale says tomorrow.
I read a couple of great books, too. (Yeah, I somehow found time to read.) I’m on a kids’ books kick right now – I do that periodically, generally when I’m stressed – and one of them was Fairest, by Gail Levine (author of Ella Enchanted). I’m going to be blogging about that later this week; it’s got some pretty thought-provoking things to say from the body-image perspective. It’s a good book, as are most of hers, and I I recommend it as well.
So. That was my weekend. Not all that healthy, but immensely thought-provoking and soul-feeding. Today I’m going to try to focus on being reasonably healthy in anticipation of tomorrow’s weigh-in – which will be the last until July 24. And that will be the last until Labor Day.
I will also be working for the next couple of weeks on putting together a challenge – a Labor Day challenge. My birthday is just after Labor Day this year, and I’m setting some goals for myself. Not just an ending number, but some specific behavioral goals, as I will not have a weekly scale-reading to measure my progress or success by. This is the way I’ll be living for the rest of my life, so I’d like to make a good start on it. Anyone who wants to join in is more than welcome; I’ll be posting the specifics in a couple of weeks.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
that sounds like an amazing wknd! i’m so glad you got in so much bonding time (even if it was over pizza and such)… totally worth it! sometimes it’s more important to live in the morning than to count calories
i love children’s books… they have lots of life lessons in them that ‘adult’ books lack (and i don’t mean adult in the xxx sort of way lol)… it’s funny that you say that you read them when you’re stressed… so do i… i think they’re comforting!
happy monday!
<3,

Sounds like you had an awesome time with your daughters this weekend.
I took the kids last week to see Kung Fu Panda and loved it (though some parts were intense for my new 5 year old). I also loved that the panda was a stress eater!
Have your read Richard Pecks’ “A Long Way from Chicago?” I think I am going to go pull it out of the bookshelf and read it this afternoon. One of my favorite young adult writers.
Have a great Monday.
Mmmmm, Sonic! How fondly I remember the #1 w/cheese (no onions) and tater tots. ::sigh:: I miss my friends.
I’m so glad you had such a fantastic weekend, and I heartily applaud your decision to splurge away! Except for the banana split. I just really can’t condone that.
Have a happy week!
