Happy Tuesday, everybody! How is everyone this lovely morning?
It is about 68 degrees here right now, the sun is shining, there is for once NO haze in the air, and it’s supposed to top out at around 75 degrees today. I cannot imagine a more perfect day. Well, it would be more perfect if I were outside, but I’ll take what I can get.
I am feeling somewhat revitalized this morning, to my own surprise. I started out exhausted, depressed, and disheartened…and the universe tossed some motivation and excitement my way. I am always very thankful when that happens.
First things first: today is, as some of you may remember, my last weigh-in until the end of the Birthday Challenge. I am embarking on a pilot program for my eventual scale-free life.
I’m excited about that; I’m looking forward to really focusing on the healthy behaviors without the concern about numbers. Intellectually, I know that if I do the right things, the numbers will drop, so it’s not like I’m completely forgetting about the numbers…but they are not going to be my motivators, nor my gauge of progress or success.
So today, I am at 169.8. Up from the end of last week, but down from the beginning.
I am actually pretty happy about that because I know TOM has imported at least a couple of pounds; he always does. I can feel the fluid retention, and I know that’ll go away when TOM is gone, so I figure it’s good. So that’s my starting point. We’ll see how much progress I am able to make by July 24.
I have big plans before then, folks, big plans. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I plan to issue a Labor Day Challenge (July 25 through Sept. 2) and I’m thinking about what my goals and benchmarks will be for that. One thing I’m excited about is that JillianMichaels.com is beginning a Summer Challenge starting July 1 that ALSO ends on Labor Day, and one of the ways to win is by your goal statement. I’m fairly competitive (hehe…I can hear WVSooner chortling at the level of understatement THERE) so this is a great motivator for me. My goals at this point are pretty unconventional so who knows, I may have a shot. Regardless, it will be another thing to strive toward.
And one of the things I am planning to do to help me get there is this. Thanks to Andrew for the nod, and to MizFit for pointing me toward Andrew’s nod.
I’m pretty excited about this as push-ups have always been my weakest strength-training area. This could be a great way to work up to actual, you know, proficiency.
I’m also leaning very heavily toward getting WiiFit. I want it, and I think it could be a great addition to my workout regimen…but it is awfully expensive. So I’m still waffling over that.
Meanwhile, I’m having DH hide the scale today, taking a page from Diana’s book…and not touching it again till July 24. After that, I’m not touching it till Labor Day…and after that, I’m hoping not to touch it again until year’s end. At which point I will hopefully only weigh myself once a year. Ambitious, no? We’ll see. I’d like to get to a point where I can do this even with the scale sitting out, but who knows. That might be a little much.
So here’s to changes, motivation, and healthy lifestyles. I hope you all have a great week!
First of all, I don’t chortle. Point my finger at your and belly (what’s left of it) laugh, yes, but never chortle.
Second, I think I will start a pool. $5 to enter, winner take all, pick the date Diet Book forces her DH to give her the scale back. I am picking Friday June 20. JK – when she puts her mind to something, that’s usually the way it goes (with very a minor exception for Cheddar and Sour Cream potato chips).
Third, if you want a real challenge and since our birthdays fall within a few days of each other, how about we see who loses most between now and then? And my unfair advantage of being made is mostly gone because the easy weight is already lost. Interested?
Wow…scale free…I’m not there yet, but maybe someday. I’ve got TOM coming this week too…seriously stop stalking me!…it’s just scary how we’re cycling together…lol
So on to the BD challenge, and the Summer Challenge sounds awesome too…maybe I’ll try something of the like
I want the Wii fit too!! We are going to get a Wii soon (haven’t even seen one in the store) and thats what I’ll splurge on!!
No way, Chris. Your advantage is NOT gone, because my “easy weight” (and only a MAN would call it that!) is LONG gone too, about a year and a half ago. Not a chance. I learned a long time ago not to race with a guy when it comes to weight loss, no matter how well Ali did on TBL this last season. Nice try though.
I’ll up your bet about the scale to $500 though. I’m very confident about that one!

love the scale plan….you can do it!!
We have talked about Wii Fit also, and it’s just not in our budget… not much is in our budget right now. Stupid prices going up.
Maybe later in the fall, or winter, when I know we’ll use it more because of snow and so forth. But I do want it!!!
Hiding the scale, I don’t think I could and do well… I need itto help me, but I wish you all the luck! I’m going to check out your links- first time here, great blog!
I’m such a dork, I’ve actually noted July 24th on my calendar as V’s weigh-in.
I’m doing the 100 pushups, too! Eventually.
Odd, I didn’t see WVSooner’s name listed on the participants. *eg*
Fantastic attitude, MissV! I’m so looking forward to your summer of successes!
Curiously enough, neither is the Diet Book.
And YET – she is signed up! You have to sign up by email, and then he has to add you. Which, if you had signed up, you would know.
So watch for it, I’ll be on there soon. HAH.

Good luck with the push ups challenge and thanks for the mention in your post!
Wii Fit is great by the way. Gotta love the hula hooping

Wow–where do I begin…I might be caught up on your posts..(hey ..I had an hour or two free tonight anyway..heehee) and of course I thoroughly ENJOYED THEM ALL. Thank you for the reassuring words/comments you left for me..was feeling like a great big blog slacker and you made it all better! The 100 pushups sounds great and I KNOW you can do it! I think the scale hiatus could be good too…it has too much control over how we feel about ourselves! Sounds like you have been making your own wonderful memories and good times too…glad to hear. I especially loved this line from an earlier post****Acronym Cocktail – PMS meets ADD meets OCD meets lazy SOB**** going down my own acronym checklist..um..check, check, check..yea..all of the above. Love you V. You always are a delight. Have a great day and let’s keep hoping for NO MORE HUMIDITY!! Blech! It’s been so nice for the last few days! xoxo
